(A salute to the secret honey holes and the ones that almost got away)
Every angler’s got a few hush-hush spots — those tucked-away riffles and secret rapids where the fish are wild, the water runs cold, and the stories get better every time they’re told. For Woolbert, those are the places he guards like family recipes — the ones where, if luck and timing align, he just might hook a shy little brookie.
She’s the flirty one of the river — colored up like autumn and full of attitude. Most days, she ghosts him without a second glance. But every so often, when the drift is perfect and Woolbert’s wearing his lucky Woolly Hookers Fly Co. hat, she can’t resist. One flash, one strike, and she hammers it like she’s been planning it all along.
And when she does, Woolbert’s grin could light up the whole canyon. He holds her up the way every fisherman does — arms out, chest proud, maybe just a little closer to the camera than honesty requires. Because in the Woolly Hookers world, size is less about inches and more about the laughter that follows.

Artist’s Note: My ode to the brook trout — beautiful, elusive, and full of attitude — and to the honey holes you only share with your closest friends. I wanted this piece to blend beauty and humor: the secret spots, the lucky hat rituals, and the unspoken art of holding the fish just close enough to the lens.
